Tucson Mayor Proclaims Tucson Greyhound Adoption Day

As part of the Southern Arizona Greyhound Adoption's Greyhound Blitz,
Mayor Jonathan Rothschild of the city of Tucson has proclaimed April 19, 2013 as Tucson Greyhound Adoption Day.

The Proclamation reads:

City of Tucson Office of the Mayor

Whereas, the month of April 2013 has been designated National Adopt a Greyhound Month; and

Whereas, for 3,000 years, this gentle and affectionate animal has been the favorite of pharaohs, kings, queens, generals and presidents; and

Whereas, since its founding in January 2012, Southern Arizona Greyhound Adoption has placed more than 50 retired greyhounds into "forever homes"; and

Whereas, the adoption of former racing greyhounds represents the single most successful adoption effort in history; and

Whereas, the volunteers of Southern Arizona Greyhound Adoption provide the opportunity to better the lives of ex-racing greyhounds by securing loving and qualified "forever home"; and

Now, Therefore, I, Jonathan Rothschild, Mayor of the City of Tucson in appreciation of these stately animals and to promote their adoption into
"forever homes," do hereby proclaim April 19 to be

Tucson Greyhound Adoption Day

in our community, and encourage all our citizens to support the adoption efforts and honor the volunteers who find homes for these prized companions.

In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the City of Tucson to affixed this 19th day of April, 2013.

Jonathan Rothschild, Mayor
